Surfing For Autism is an autism/asperger’s awareness event August 14th on the Outer Banks of NC. Local surfers are partnering up with children who have autism/asperger’s and introduce them to paddling, surfing, and a new way to have fun in the sun. If you’d like to register your child , click here. NC businesses see Outer Banks tourists returning

sunset_on_the_outer_banks CURRITUCK, N.C. (AP) -- Tourism traffic is up and so are vacation bookings along North Carolina's Outer Banks.

The Daily Advance of Elizabeth City reported Wednesday that hotel and real estate managers say tourists have been back this summer after financial worries led many families to cut back on vacations last year.

Currituck Tourism Director Diane Nordstrom says heavy traffic on weekends is one indicator that tourism is returning to normal. She says another is that most vacation homes and hotels are near capacity.

As it has been reported in the last couple weeks, Lowe's Home Improvements is considering a location in Kill Devil Hills.  The proposed location is near the Wright Brothers Monument and Landing Drive.
