Surfing for Autism in the Outer Banks

Surfing For Autism is an autism/asperger’s awareness event August 14th on the Outer Banks of NC. Local surfers are partnering up with children who have autism/asperger’s and introduce them to paddling, surfing, and a new way to have fun in the sun. If you’d like to register your child , click here. Check the Autism Society of NC’s website to learn more about autism, the importance of early intervention, parental support, and the latest research concerning this wide-spread disorder.

Tourism up on the Outer Banks

NC businesses see Outer Banks tourists returning

 CURRITUCK, N.C. (AP) -- Tourism traffic is up and so are vacation bookings along North Carolina's Outer Banks.

The Daily Advance of Elizabeth City reported Wednesday that hotel and real estate managers say tourists have been back this summer after financial worries led many families to cut back on vacations last year.

Currituck Tourism Director Diane Nordstrom says heavy traffic on weekends is one indicator that tourism is returning to normal. She says another is that most vacation homes and hotels are near capacity.

Ross Twiddy of Twiddy Realty says vacation bookings got off to a slow start this spring, but picked up…

Lowe's Home Improvements considering Kill Devil Hills location

As it has been reported in the last couple weeks, Lowe's Home Improvements is considering a location in Kill Devil Hills.  The proposed location is near the Wright Brothers Monument and Landing Drive. 

The store would be built on just over 12 acres and would encompass some 160,000 square feet of retail space.

First Flight Airport highlighted in Forbes Blog

Of the many attractions along the Outer Banks, its not often the small airport behind the Wright Brothers Monment gets spotlighted.  The airport along with a few Outer Banks businesses were highlighted in the article.

Read the welcoming sign post as we tied down the airplane and made our way to the Wright brothers’ memorial site. But I am getting ahead of my story. There were many hurdles to cross before we could be there to read that sign. This was one fly out I did not want to miss!
