Thanksgiving is usually a bustling weekend on the Outer Banks.  Lots of folks come down to enjoy the long holiday weekend.  The Thanksgiving weekend will find restaurants and grocery stores with a larger crowd than usual.  Shops from the Tanger Outlets to Wal-Mart will be brimming with shoppers come Friday.  For many, Thanksgiving starts early with one of the annual 5K's.  

This year we find several races for runners and walkers to enjoy.  First in Duck, we have the running of the 18th Annual Active Turkey Trot 5K.  This year in Hatteras, we have the 2nd Annual Surfin' Turkey 5k & Drumstick Dash Fun Run at the Hatteras Village Civic Center on Route 12.The third 5K we have is the Outer Banks Running Club's Gobbler 5K and Fun Run.

An often overlooked community for buying a home on the Outer Banks is Colington Harbour.  Colington Harbour offers something for everyone.  The boating enthusiast will find plenty of homes with boatslips and located within easy access to the Albemarle Sound.  Depending on one's price range, you can find waterfront homes located on canals or soundfront.  Land and homes sold this year in Colington Harbour have ranged from under $100,000 to over $475,000.

We are less than a week away from this year's Outer Banks Marathon. What started as a small local marathon has blossomed into one of the biggest off season weekends on the Outer Banks.  Whether you are a runner or not the marathon weekend offers a great excuse to visit the Outer Banks.

The marathon is supported by the community, thousands of volunteers, and many local businesses.  The aid stations along the course are filled with enthusiastic helpers and plenty of support staff.  If running 13.1 or 26.2 miles is too much for you, the weekend is also home to a 6 mile run, an 8K, 5K, and a Family Fun Run.

Fall is here and it's almost time for the annual Outer Banks Parade of Homes.  This year's Parade of Homes is being held from October 9th through 13th.  AS usual there is plenty to be excited about this year's entries.  From Corolla to Manteo enjoy a leisurely stroll through some of the Outer Banks finest new construction.

This weekend starts the Eastern Surfing Association, Easterns Surfing Championship at Jennette's Pier.  Hopefully the weather works out well for them and brings good surf to those participating in the contest.  If your visiting the Outer Banks it's definitely not something to miss.

The Eastern Surfing Association will hold it 46th Easterns® Surfing Championship at Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head, North Carolina beginning Sunday, September 15th.  There will be seven straight days of competition featuring the best amateur surfers from the entire East Coast.

The renovations to the Wal-Mart in Kitty Hawk are finished, the ribbon-cutting has been held and the expanded Super Wal-Mart is now open.  The expanded Wal-Mart now offers produce, expanded refrigerated section and more.  

Having just made a quick stop, I noticed their are quite a few changes to the store.  All the changes I noticed definitely seemed to be for the better.  You'll just have to check it out yourself and decide.
