We all LOVE our furry four legged friends and when we travel we would really enjoy having them accompany us. Many that visit here for their family vacation frown upon the idea of having to leave this family member home, and worse put up in a kennel for a week! For some, it is too much to bring them to an unfamiliar place especially in the summer, hot weeks. But, the ones that can and prefer to they have learned than many of the property management companies have "Pet Friendly" homes available. Typically, they have restrictions on some levels like quantity of dogs and some may even have a size cap.
These vacation homes that allow dogs and cats have special deposit fees and most that travel with their pets have learned to accept this part. As well, many of these Outer Banks Vacation Homes have specific accomodations (not all, so search well) like an outdoor fenced in area and even go as far as supplying welcome treats! With the outdoor activities of the beach, walking, hiking and water fun pet owners will have plenty of opportunity to get their dogs exercise and happy experiences. My Golden Retriever, Hudson, swims almost every morning in the wonderful sound front waters of the Albermarle Sound.
If the family has special dinner plans and cannot leave their pet alone there are several services here that will short or long term sit with your dog. I have learned about a useful app that I use when I travel called "Sniffspot". Basically, you get to see some choices of dog sitters with in a few miles of the vacation home. As well, there are some dedicated kennel services that will over night your pup.
Another mention is that there are several "Doggie Day Care" services you can locate with a simple search on your smart phone. Whether you need a few days boarding or a few hours you will find accomodations. One place that has become a real "go to" and a favorite is the Outer Banks School for Dogs. They have a doggy playground, training experts on staff and know how to keep dogs busy and safe. They also own an adjacent Holistic Pet Shop with top notch safe products for everything from treats to treatments for your dog or cat. They even have a standing relationship with a local vet in case the need arises.
Let's be honest.....we all love our pets and would enjoy their company when on vacation at the Outer Banks. Know that is able to happen comfortably when all you need to do is a little research and ask questions. The Pet Industry is a huge one and this means services for the folks that like to travel. So, take "Fido" with you this time.....he/she will love to spend the most joyful times you have with YOU! Come to the OBX as a WHOLE family this time!
