Here is some great news from the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau website.

Buxton Lifeguarded Beach at Cape Hatteras was named in the Top Ten “Best Beach in America” list for 2009 by respected beach expert Dr. Stephen Leatherman. Known internationally as “Dr. Beach,” Leatherman rated the Outer Banks beach in the Cape Hatteras National Seashore #7 of ten domestic beach destinations including Hanalei Bay, HI; Siesta Beach in Sarasota, FL; Coopers Beach in Southampton, NY; Coronado Beach in San Diego, CA; Hamoa Beach in Maui, HI; Main Beach in East Hampton, NY; Cape Florida State Park in Key Biscayne, FL; Coast Guard Beach at Cape Cod, MA; and Beachwalker Park on Kiawah Island, SC.

“We are so excited about having the beach at Cape Hatteras make Dr. Beach’s list again this year,” says Aaron Tuell, Director of Public Relations for the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau. “What a wonderful way to kick off Memorial Day Weekend, which is the official start of the summer tourism season for us. It is such an honor to be ranked among some really incredible beaches across the country. We are very proud of our heritage as America’s Beach, with the Cape Hatteras National Seashore being our country’s first national seashore established in 1953, and having some of the most beautiful, clean and undeveloped beaches in the United States.”
