After 2 consecutive years of record-setting tourism numbers many wonder, what 2014 holds in store for the Outer Banks? After an unseasonably cold Winter and a later than average Easter weekend, tourism seemed to be off to a slow start. 

If recent traffic and crowds are any indications, Summer is officially here. As the mercury has recently climbed so has the number of folks along the OBX. In the last week, there has been a noticeable increase in folks driving, shopping, and along the beach.

The early word from a number of Outer Banks property managers is that 2014 is going to be a strong season. Over the next 10 weeks or so we should see occupancy reaching 100% for many vacation homes and hotels. Depending on how this year's hurricane season turns…

If you hadn't had enough Christmas fun on Saturday with the Manteo Christmas Parade and Town of Duck Yuletide Celebration you can always finish the day at the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island.  The aquarium is holding its annual Great White Fishmas onSaturday December 7th from 5:30 - 7:30

The new event offers plenty of holidau fun for the entire family.  Lots of great things will be taking place like Reindeer games, cookie decorating, and even a chance to see a scuba diving Santa Claus.  Come out and enjoy some holiday fun at the NC Aquarium.

christmas_2012_430_400This Saturday December 7th marks the 3rd Annual Duck Yuletide Celebration.  Enjoy lots of great festive happenings from the lighting of the Crab Pot Christmas Tree to the arrival of Santa Claus on a Duck Fire Truck. Music will be performed by Emme St. James & Her Jazz Gentlemen.  They will be preforming hits from their holiday CD, I'd Like You for Christmas.  

After the performance many businesses in Duck will be opened late with special promotions, holiday tunes, and refreshments.  While your there you can also vote in the Duck Holiday Window Decoration Contest.  The contest is running until December 20th, so be sure to cast your vote early.

One of the highlights of the Christmas season on the Outer Banks is the usually still mild weather and plenty of good family fun during the entire month of December.  This Friday and Saturday, December 6th and 7th, are the annual Town of Manteo Christmas Tree Lighting & Parade. 

Everything kicks off Friday night at 6pm with the Grand Illumination.  This takes place in front of the historic Manteo courthouse on Queen Elizabeth street.  Downtown Manteo transforms into a holiday production for all ages.  Many performances will be taking place from local performers including the Manteo and First Flight Choirs leading up to the appearance of Santa Claus.

Thanksgiving is usually a bustling weekend on the Outer Banks.  Lots of folks come down to enjoy the long holiday weekend.  The Thanksgiving weekend will find restaurants and grocery stores with a larger crowd than usual.  Shops from the Tanger Outlets to Wal-Mart will be brimming with shoppers come Friday.  For many, Thanksgiving starts early with one of the annual 5K's.  

This year we find several races for runners and walkers to enjoy.  First in Duck, we have the running of the 18th Annual Active Turkey Trot 5K.  This year in Hatteras, we have the 2nd Annual Surfin' Turkey 5k & Drumstick Dash Fun Run at the Hatteras Village Civic Center on Route 12.The third 5K we have is the Outer Banks Running Club's Gobbler 5K and Fun Run.
