Twice in 1 week we have now seen, North Carolina's state record for striped bass broken.  Striped bass or as they are locally known, rockfish are one of the highlights of the winter fishing season.  From the Charlotte Observer,

On Wednesday 12-year-old Stephen Furlough boated a N.C. record striped bass weighing 63 pounds while fishing outside Oregon Inlet.

This fine, fun, feel-good story of a boy and a big fish lasted only 48 hours.

On Friday, Keith Angel pulled a 64-pounder from the same waters.

Here is an excellent video, produced by the Outer Banks Voice, that condenses the recent Nags Head Board of Commissioners Special Meeting.  The meeting was held on December 27th and specifically concerns beach nourishment.
