BUXTON, N.C. (AP) - The leader of the North Carolina Senate says he won't fight wind farms proposed offshore from an area he represents.
WRAL-TV reported that Sen. Marc Basnight said a public meeting in Buxton Friday that he's aware of concerns that wind turbines could disrupt scenic coastal views and tourism. But Basnight says alternative energy sources must be considered to thwart global warming.
His comments came at a meeting where researchers from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill described a new study that found 2,800 square miles of coastal water could generate industrial-scale wind energy.
